Rowsley Village Hall
As it has been recently the weather was rather mild for this time of year!
I was sweating at the start line in the clothes I’m going to wear for TTing in the summer & it was only 12deg!
The course I would describe as extremely challenging & the organisers description of the course as “Typical Derbyshire Lanes” was a bit of an understatement to say the least.
It was pretty much ascending for the first 10miles or so.
So the average speed let a lot to be desired.
But once we cleared the C roads & headed onto the A515 that’s where things started to pick up.
Including the wind - which was a ferocious crosswind. So much so all the competition I passed were in their base bars.
They were astounded I could stay in my extensions & so was I when I got passed by two lorries nearly making me topple to the ground as I was leaning into the wind by around 5 degrees or so.
The downhill parts were to much reward as we were hitting 50mph+
All in all a really interesting course.
I managed to finish 2nd overall only 28sec behind the winner.
I had a couple of hold ups on the faster parts & we decided it was that that cost me the win - but that’s part of the game I suppose!
Pretty pleased with 2nd!
Considering the winner was 5th at National HC Champs!
Winner - Andy Nichols - 1.00.33
2nd - David Fellows - 1.01.01
3rd - Joe Clark - 1.03.15
