*** Stuart Jameson Wins LVRC National Series ***
*** Penny Wilkin & David Fellows Win Midlands 50mi Champs ***
*** Gary Rowing-Parker & Ailsa Neeley Win at Cyclocross 2nd Round ***

First up, in a very busy week we'll visit the world of Hill Climbing.
On Saturday David Fellows made the long trek up to the North Pennines to race up a road to rival any of the great mountain roads on the continent – The Great Dun Fell. 4.5 miles at an avg of 10%. David finished in 23.30 & gained a credible 10th place in a stacked field of national championship contenders.
The day after Richard Burt Rode another of England's iconic climbs – The Cat & Fiddle. 7 Miles almost all uphill. Richard managed to actually finish this year! His time was 26.02 which meant he was just outside of winning the V60 title.

Also on Saturday, in the afternoon however, the VTTA were holding a 10 mile TT on the K33/10D Course at Salford Priors. Peter Blackwell & Steve Mountford made the journey & the Clocked 22.38 & 23.35 Respectively.

Continuing with races on Saturday Oliver Tandy & William Ryan raced the U16 National Criterium Champs at Brands Hatch. William finished in the Bunch. Oliver was doing well until an unfortunate clash of wheels on the penultimate lap meant two of his spokes broke, he managed to stay upright & finish the race, but that's real hard luck.

Even though I've already covered one event on Sunday it was an extremely Busy day for Solihull CC.
Mostly so at the West Midlands Cyclocross league Round 2, hosted by Redditch R&PCC at Abbey Stadium. The Course wasn't as muddy as previous years due to the hot weather on the day so it was very fast & furious in all of the races. Solihull brought along 38 riders.
The best of the results came in the Veteran Womens & Mens Races. In the Womens, Ailsa Neeley Won the V40 category Whilst Jean Brownsword & Judith harper duelled each other all race & finished 6th & 2nd in their respective Categories. In the Mens Gary Rowing-Parker, the clubs Cross Guru, took a well deserved win in the V60 Category & Bernie Wareing took a respectable 6th in the V65. The vet Mens race also featured Neil Taylor, Mike Harrison, Gary Corden, David Green, Tim Gordon & Keith Jones. Earlier in the day Jacob Lattimer Finished in a fine 6th place in the U8s race. In the U10s Rose Neeley was 4th, a great result! James Caine was 8th ahead of William Garner.
The U12 race saw Holly Saunders Fly into 4th place after the tough 20 minutes of racing. The boys in the U12 were represented by Daniel Charlton, Matthew Hitchmough, Samuel Thomas & Daniel Brownsword. The Youth Race was super fast & very competitive. Ella Tandy shone through & secured a podium spot, 3rd place! In the boys Max Saunders & Samuel Greenwell continued their impressive start to the season with 7th & 10th. In the same race Ben Woodhouse, Samuel Brownsword & Patrick Neeley represented the club superbly. Oliver Tandy & Akhil Kolnaty continued their consistent run of form in the U16 cat with a 6th & 9th placing. Jack Alexander battled superbly for 19th.
The Final Race of the day was packed with 126 racers from Junior to V40. Conor Jones was first Solihull home with 21st overall & 8th Junior. Jack fothergill battled from the back & finished 11th Junior. In the seniors Ashley Wright raced well for 22nd. Tom Green finished 5th in the U23s & Robert Neeley & Michael Brownsword were 15th & 17th in the V40. Unfortuanately in this race there were 3 DNFs Matt Rogers, Hari Vikram & Jacob Jones which just highlights how tough this race was & just how unforgiving Cyclocross can be.

At the break of dawn on Sunday the CTT Midland Dist Committee held their annual 50 mile TT champs. A course that takes in two laps of the A46 between Alcester & Evesham. Penny Wilkin & David Fellows took the overall Win in the Womens & Mens category, A first for Solihull I think, in times of 2.12.15 & 1.48.07. So Penny & David are the 50 mile champions for this year! Mark Paveley Also raced & raced well! He secured 4th vet on standard with a 1.57.27 & according to Mark that's the first 50 he's ever Finished!!

Hopefully he thought I'd forgotten.

On Sunday it was the Final round of the Percy Stallard LVRC National Series. Stuart Jameson Managed to Win the overall series after taking second spot in the final race near Peterborough. The racing was the most aggressive it has been all year. Attacks came at every opportunity from any of the 3 racers who could've dethroned Stuart from the top spot & taken the series for themselves. But Stuart dug in deeper than he ever has before & managed to distance all his rivals in the final sprint & take a fantastic 2nd & an excellent series Win. This is the second time in 2 years that a Solihull rider has won the National series. Big thanks from Stuart to Adrian Byrne & Simon Hill who also raced in the same race & were there to chase back any dangerous breaks & cover Stuart when he needed it – so it was very much a team win!
Ian Cowan also raced in the E/F/G/H race on the same day. Early on in the race 3 got away & were never seen again. Around halfway into the race another 6 made a break But Ian & another 3 worked hard to bring them back. Which they did & by the 3km to go mark Ian managed to gap the rest with another 2 riders. They stayed away but Ian could only manage 3rd out of the 3 of them. He did however claim 2nd in the E cat!

Another Great Week of Racing! Everyone who represented did the club proud!
