|*** Paul Mann 2nd at Swynnerton TLI RR***
Racing wise a relatively quiet week this week compared to weeks gone by.
Jack Rootkin-Gray traveled down to Monmouth in South Wales for the latest round of the National Junior Mens Road Race Series. The race itself is thought to be one of the toughest yet, 77miles & close to 2500m of ascent. Jack got in an early break of 11 & picked up a 3rd place in one of the early KOM primes. The break was soon reeled in & immediately countered. After his early efforts to get in the break Jack couldn't stay with the front but still managed a very impressive 12th place overall. To give you an idea of how tough the course was 100 started & 53 finished.
Eddy Priddy & Steve Mountford Got a Cheeky 10mi TT in on Tuesday night. Hosted by Warwickshire RC on the A435 just south of Wythall. The course is 2 laps of the dual carriageway.
Steve was Eddys minute man. & Eddy caught him before the final turn only to be overtaken again by Steve with 1 mile left after Eddy got held up. Eddy righted that just 100m before the finish & they both finished in respectable times 22.21 for Eddy & 23.25 for Steve.
Adrian Byrne Competed at Darley Moor on Saturday Morning & Stourport on Tuesday Night in an attempt to show age is no barrier when it comes to being competitive in bike racing. He just missed out on the top 10 at Darley Moor & that crucial point he needs for a license upgrade after being blocked on the kerb toward the finish. He had worse luck at Stourport after breaking a spoke in his rear wheel only 3 laps into the race forcing him to withdraw.
Akhil Kolnaty was the only representative at the Youth Races at Shrewsbury on Saturday. He finished in 5th place in the U14 race which was run at the same time as the U16 race. Some of the stronger U14 riders were able to make a break with the U16 riders whereas Akhil remained largely with the U14s. Sneaking away toward the end & nabbing 5th.
The TLI Road Race at Swynnerton saw 3 of our Veterans take part. Ian Cowan for the E cat & Russ Perry & Paul Mann in the D cat. In the C/D race A group of riders went up the road after the second lap. Paul & Russ thought this was all C cats, however it turned out one of them was a D. Russ & Paul formed a chase group & tried their damnest to bring the break back. However it was to no avail & on the last climb on of Pauls companions in the chase attacked on the final climb & Paul managed to get on his wheel & out sprint him to take 2nd place! Russ unfortunately suffered from cramp & sat up for the last 5km or so.
Ian managed 6th in his category as his race played out almost the opposite to the CD race as it resulted in a bunch sprint in which Ian was 7th but 6th D cat.
Apologies if I missed anyone out – If you race under the banner of Solihull CC & would like a mention please get in touch on the message tab on the Facebook Page.
Well Done to all who raced this week again! Fantastic Stuff!
