|*** Andrew Simpkins & Penny Wilkin Crowned Club 100mi Champions***
Long distance time trialling was the order of the day on Sunday as Penny Wilkin & Sarah McNaney travelled north to Market Drayton for the Cheshire Cycling Association 100mi TT Champs on the D100/2A Course. The weather was overcast with a gentle breeze so nothing to hamper the girls, or Sarah in particular who was competing in her FIRST Open Time Trial... I know, right. The roads were described as “almost perfect” & the event was well marshalled meaning our girls made it back safely with Penny finishing in 5:17.26 to retain her 100mi title & Sarah stopping the clock in 5:43.42. Chapaeu!!
Andrew Simpkins also retained his 100mi Title by trekking even further north than the girls to Keswick to race the Veterans Time Trial Association 100mi Champs on the L10010 course. Conditions for the event were good with a little bit of wind but thankfully no rain! Andrew finished in a time of 4:21.45. Very Very Respectable!
Away From Time Trialling there were 2 different LVRC races that some of our members raced in on Sunday.
Taking Place near Grimsby was the 5th Round of the Percy Stallard National series, The Tour Of The Wolds. Russell Perry, Paul Mann & Adrian Byrne made the journey north for the race. Adrians chances, despite feeling great, were hampered by matters he could not control, IE other road users. The race was marred with Dqs & was probably one to forget.
Paul & Russ, Despite their best efforts could only finish mid bunch. The break got away early & was almost caught before some of the bunch decided to add numbers to the break then they rode away again. Unfortunately a late attack from Paul was brought back & they all rolled across the line together.
The other LVRC race was a little closer to home – The Tour De Thorpe.
Simon Hill Finished 9th in the B race. He found this frustrating as he felt he was one of the strongest, but just went with all the wrong wheels & with the majority of the bunch having team mates in the 8 man break up the road, catching was near impossible. Simon managed to salvage something & win the bunch sprint for 9th.
Lee Forrest & Richard Blackman raced in the CD race & finished in the Bunch.
Oliver Tandy, Racing in the Wallingford Town Centre Criterium, had a better time of it this time around after crashing out of the last one he did in Bristol. Despite his fatigue from a hard week training he stayed with the front group & had enough energy to chase down a few attacks. He was pushed out of podium place by a whisker, into 4th, just due to a bad gear choice in the sprint. However still a great result!!
Stuart Jameson wanted to carry his recent good run of form into the BC Masters National Criterium Championships. However he was scuppered slightly by one corner he couldn’t just get right & that spoiled his sprint meant he could only manage 12th.
Adrian Byrne once again had a very busy week Racing not only on Sunday but also the Friday before in the 3rd cat only at Curborough. Then only 1 day rest from Sunday he decided to take his anger out from the weekend & do 2 races of an evening at Stourport sports club Picking up 2 top ten placings yet again! Good Job!
Apologies if I have missed anyone – I do my best – if you have any race results you'd like to be included in the report please send them via the message option on the Facebook page & I shall pick them up!
