*** Jack Rootkin-Gray Wins European Junior Cycling Tour of Assen ***
*** Stuart Jameson 2nd at TLI Nationals ***
*** Kit Buchanan Sets the Longest Recorded Pedal Flight in the UK ***
With only days to spare after the Junior National Road Race Jack Rootkin-Gray was straight back in action again at the European Junior Tour of Assen in Holland. Its a six Event stage race consisting of a Prologue, a Time Trial, 2 Road Races & 2 Criteriums; one of which Jack won outright! Riding conditions that suits Jack down to the ground, clearly, as he won the overall GC & took the yellow Jersey in the process after leading from the 3rd stage! Nice one! A massive achievement!
Stuart Jameson, Adrian Byrne, Russell Perry & Paul Mann Travelled to Swynnerton TLI Charlie Bettley Mem. Road Race on Sunday Morning. For Adrian & Stuart it was a chance to get a good look at the LVRC national Road Race course & for Paul & Russ it was all about having fun! Racing in the C/D category Race Paul & Russ Finished toward the back of the bunch after missing the break half way through the race & being caught up behind a crash with ½ a lap to go.
For Stuart & Adrian it was slightly unfamiliar territory as they were racing with some of their LVRC rivals but with seniors thrown in the mix too. As you may imagine there were plenty of attacks the first of which, a 2up, stuck for nearly the whole of the race. But the decisive move for Stuart came with ¾ of a lap to go when he got away from the bunch with 5 others & caught one of the original break. In the sprint for 2nd Place Stuart was 4th across the line placing him 5th overall & 2nd in the B category. Adrian unfortunately, again, suffered a mechanical. We are all keeping our fingers crossed everything goes well for him in the nationals.
Pete Ward Raced in Round 12 of the Friday Night Summer Series of Mountain Bike Racing near Market Harborough, On Friday, Funnily Enough. The course was through woodland which made it challenging. Pete Finished well in his Grand Vets Category. Pete wants to encourage other members to join in these races – details can be found on the forum or the BC website.
Lastly... Something a little different. Since university, Kit Buchanan, has been working in his spare time when he isn't cycling on building a human powered aircraft. The Prestigious Icarus Cup is between two of the best teams in the country at building & flying such pedal powered planes. & last week Kit was part of the winning team! But not only that on the way to winning, in less than ideal conditions with rain & stronger than expected winds, Kit managed to record the longest flight time ever recorded in the UK at 6 mins & 30 seconds! Great Stuff!
Well Done to everyone who raced or represented Solihull CC over the past week!! |
