*** Ian Cowan 2nd at LVRC National Road Race ***
*** David Fellows Sets Course Record at 5mile Champs ***
*** Jack Rootkin Gray Represents Solihull at Junior Tour of Wales ***

On Sunday it was the LVRC national road race championships for the E cats & above held near Congleton. Representing Solihull was Ian Cowan & Andrew Simpkins. In Ians race he decided to just observe for the first four laps & witnessed a few half hearted attacks being brought back with relative ease by the bunch. Mid way into the 5th & final lap two guys got off the front as the pace picked up Ian managed to bridge the gap & continued past the leading group & brought one of them with him. They built up a gap of around 1 minute with just five miles left. A podium was a sure in. Ian started his move at what he thought was the 1KM to go sign but it turned out to be only 200m to go which was too late & Ian finished 2nd!
Andrew raced in the later race – 65 & over – the race was won with a 47mile solo effort. Andrew had his work cut out to bring that one back but he & a few others did try to bring back an attack on the second lap which saw 4 strong riders get away & despite their efforts they stayed away. The lack of the 1km board also played havoc in this race as the rush for the line came sooner than everyone expected & Andrew got 5th in the Sprint finishing 10th overall.

Jack Rootkin-Gray became the first rider to wear the Solihull Jersey at the prestigious Junior Tour Of Wales over the bank holiday weekend. Consisting of 5 stages over 4 days the Junior Tour of Wales has been contested by some of the biggest names in the sport, most notably Dan Martin who beat Geraint Thomas about 13 years ago. The first evening consisted of a short TT which finished at the top of the Tumble. Jack finished 13th Not too far off the lead. The next day the heat was to play havoc as it was unexpectedly hot for the first road stage which also had a summit finish. Jack got in the break but suffered from the heat & only just about finished. The Sunday saw 2 stages, A criterium race which Jack finished in the bunch & a road stage in the afternoon in which Jack got into the break after 20Km out of 100 & finished 8th overall in the stage. The last stage was the hardest of them all – a Road stage with a summit finish of the Tumble. Jack stayed in the peloton but didn't have the legs up the climb. A decent set of results not exactly what he'd hoped for but considering how hard he's raced this season they were pretty good!

On Thursday it was the culmination of Solihulls Club time trial season, the 5 mile championships.
Taking place, as always, on the K36/5 course starting in wood end. The fatsest on the day was David Fellows, who set a new course & club record of 10.01 – I think the timekeepers shouldve been more generous. Second on the night & fastest Junior was Jack Rootkin Gray in 10.20. & the road bike champs was won by Kit Buchanan in 11.42. A big thanks from the club to all the helpers & organisers of the Time Trials this season! Especially to Ali Mountford for some wonderful cakes!
